this word has been flying around a lot lately…content marketing…and content marketing strategy…but wtf does it even mean and why is it important for you as a small business girlie?
content marketing is a strategic approach focused on creating and distributing valuable, relevant, and consistent content to attract and retain a defined audience. unlike traditional advertising, content marketing isn't about pitching products directly. instead, it goal is to build trust, credibility, and brand loyalty by delivering information that resonates with your audience.
the essence of content marketing lies in storytelling — using a variety of mediums such as blog posts, social media, videos, podcasts, and more to communicate your brand's narrative. by providing valuable insights, solving problems, entertaining, and connecting, content marketers seek to establish a connection with their audience.
in simpler terms, content marketing is how you get your dreamiest of clients to become your ride or die baddies for your small business for life. it’s way more than just talking about and promoting your product/service BUT it’s about making your audience fall in love with you, your business, your why, your values, etc!
so…what is the difference between a social media strategy and a content marketing strategy?
content marketing is the BIG PICTURE…social media is a piece of the puzzle.
you content marketing strategy:
focus: a broader approach centered on creating, distributing, and managing content to attract and engage a target audience.
platforms: encompasses various platforms like blogs, social media, videos, podcasts, eBooks, and more.
goal: aims to build brand authority, foster trust, and guide the audience through the customer’s journey.
timeline: typically long-term, focusing on establishing a strong brand presence.
your social media strategy:
focus: narrower in scope, concentrating on creating content for specific social media platforms.
platforms: primarily involves platforms like instagram, facebook, tiktok, etc
goal: immediate engagement, brand visibility, and fostering a community.
timeline: often involves more real-time or short-term planning.
content marketing: think of it as the overarching strategy, involving a diverse range of content across various platforms to build a brand narrative and guide the audience through the entire customer journey.
social media strategy: a subset of content marketing, specifically tailored for social platforms, focusing on immediate audience interaction, community building, and brand visibility.
now bigger corporations usually have an entire team for this…
